ArcelorMittal, the world's leading steel and mining company, will be present at the world's largest rail industry trade fair, InnoTrans in Berlin, from 23 to 26 September 2014 - showing the latest technological advances implemented in their four rail mills in Luxemburg, Poland, USA and Spain.

"ArcelorMittal's commitment to the railway transport industry is based on its state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies which allows the group to deliver top quality rails that guarantee the best performance and maximum safety for railway users", says Amit Sengupta, chief marketing officer at ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products.

In February 2014, ArcelorMittal Dabrowa Gornicza in Poland inaugurated its revamped rail and sections mill. This investment enables the facility to produce 120 metre-long rails, which have higher durability and improved safety due to a lower number of joints in the track. In addition, longer rails lead to reduced installation costs. Only three plants in the world can produce rails of this length.

Unmatched R&D capability

In 2011 a specialized rail lab was established in Asturias (Spain) with the objective of working together with customers to develop leading edge products to meet the evolving demands of the industry. Global R&D Asturias has invested in simulation, modelling, measurement and control, pilot and prototyping facilities, skills and equipment that are required for developing and enhancing new rail mill processes. Indeed, models of the rail production process are developed and various types of equipment are designed and tested to support process and product developments

ArcelorMittal has a long tradition of producing innovative products for rail transportation. "Through our outstanding experience globally, our presence in two continents and our unique R&D facilities, we are the ideal partner for the global rail transportation industry to meet the challenges of tomorrow", comments Sengupta.
