Athens Metro is embarking on a historic modernisation project, and ArcelorMittal is at the heart of this transformation. For the first time in 25 years, the city’s busiest metro lines are undergoing a major rail replacement, and our rails will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safer, smoother and more sustainable journey for thousands of commuters every day.

The initiative involves replacing 32km of track connecting key sections of Athens – line 2 (red line) from Sepolia to Dafni, and line 3 (blue line) from Monastiraki to Ethniki Amyna – and will rely on rails made in Gijón, reinforcing ArcelorMittal’s reputation as a global leader in rails.

This is the first preventive rail replacement since the metro began operating 25 years ago, underscoring the importance of durability and performance in urban transport infrastructure. The project marks a significant step toward improving the reliability and safety of the city’s busiest metro routes.

ArcelorMittal delivered the rails to the depots of the network operator, Stasy. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.

This project demonstrates ArcelorMittal’s commitment to supporting urban mobility solutions that meet the highest standards of safety and performance. We don’t just supply steel – we deliver solutions that keep cities moving.
