Vossloh Experience day

Pawel Panasiuk, Sales Manager of Rails & Special Sections attended the event and took the opportunity to present ArcelorMittal committed to leading industry’s efforts to decarbonize, and to be part of the solution to the world reaching net-zero by 2050, and key projects contributing to produce rails with less CO2: the LEAF project in Spain and the SteelUp! Project in Luxembourg.

ArcelorMittal has started the construction of an electric arc furnace (EAF) for long products, which is expected to produce its first heat in the first quarter of 2026. EAF project will constitute the first step towards low-carbon emissions steelmaking in Asturias, Spain.

The reduction in CO2 emissions is achieved by transitioning from a process in which the main raw material was hot metal produced in the blast furnace using fossil fuels, to a process where the main inputs are scrap and direct reduced iron. The new EAF will lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions of over 35%; this reduction in emissions could reach 1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent a year once the transition phase has been completed. The installation of this state-of-the-art technology will enable ArcelorMittal to produce high added value rails, through a process that incorporates the highest safety standards.

The SteelUp! project aims to modernize the electric arc furnace at Belval steelworks, so that it can supply with low-carbon steel to Rodange. This project combines process optimization, relocation and reduction of our carbon footprint per tonne of steel. Thanks to this project, the final carbon footprint of Rodange products will be divided by six. Launched in December 2023, It will be fully operational by the end of 2025.

Pawel Panasiuk highlighted the importance of our collaboration in these events, “we have the opportunity of showing our products and latest innovations but also we have the opportunity to listen and learn from our customers and maintain a close contact with them” he said.
