ArcelorMittal has been awarded the contract to supply tracks for the Purple Line section of the Bangkok Metro, operated by MRTA (Mass Rapid Transit Authority), a Thai state enterprise under the Ministry of Transport and responsible for the operation of rapid transit systems in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region.
The Purple Line southern extension project, Tao Pun – Rat Burana (Kanchanapisek Road) section, will offer a direct route from Nonthaburi, a district located just north of Bangkok, to the south-eastern part of the capital. The project will cover 23.6 km of railway tracks and 17 stations, of which 10 will be underground and 7 elevated. This extension will improve the connectivity and mobility in the region, facilitating efficient access to important urban areas of Bangkok. The project is expected to be completed and open by 2027.
The award of this project underlines the recognition of ArcelorMittal’s technical excellence, and it confirms our commitment to the development of railway infrastructure in the country.
A group of Thai experts visited the Gijon rail mill
A team of 12 participants coming from three different companies, including MRTA, the Project Management and Construction Supervision Consultant 3 (PMCSC3) and Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited companies, has visited our Gijon mill in March. They saw how our rails are made and could inspect the ones we produced for their project.
